On behalf of the APOCP, I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Chien-Jen Chen, President of the APOCP and the organizing committee members of the 7th APOCP General Assembly Conference for their tremendous effort in preparing the conference.
The APOCP, a non-political, non-profit organization, was founded 14 years ago in 2000 to promote cancer prevention and also collaborative studies in the Asian Pacific regions. The aims of the organization are to provide opportunities to expert researchers to exchange mutual information for cancer prevention, to promote collaborative studies on cancer epidemiology and prevention, and to facilitate the implementation of active programs for cancer prevention.
The main theme of the conference, “Cancer Prevention through Integrated Global Effort” is very timely because about half of cancer patients and cancer deaths occur in Asia. Cancer has been rapidly rising in this region. However, there are still wide variations in cancer frequencies, cancer burden and survivorship due to big differences in health care resources. International cooperation is, needless to say, essential to conquer this tragedy.
I believe that the 7th General Assembly Conference will be the key momentum towards continuous growth of our activities on practical cancer prevention, which need to focus on current knowledge, ideas and achievements.
